Project Background
For this project I was tasked with creating a poster based on a song of my choice while using typography as a way to capture the capture the depth and feeling of the piece. I have always loved ABBA, and thought the message within their song Voulez-Vous was perfect for this project. When creating my
letterforms I was inspired by the ABBA tribute’s lighting instillation, so I created custom letters from dots to capture this same effect.For the supporting text, I took a section from Voulez-Vous and distributed it in a way that allowed it to move with the shape of the disco ball.
Design Process
I started the design process by doing thumbnail sketches of possible poster ideas based on imagery I thought about when listening to the song, with a focus on typography. I liked the
way the dot letterforms were working, so I played around with the placement on the poster, the glow effect, and coloring each individual dot to coordinate with the lighting in the image.
