Background & Brand Style

For this project I had to create an app prototype based off of a medical device with limited screen information that would help users to better understand and track their health. I chose to create an app that would sync with a blood pressure monitor and started by interacting with it. I found that since it was my first time using it, I was confused about which buttons to use and how tight the cuff should be. In my research I also found that there were a lot of other factors that could influence your blood pressure reading that a lot of people might not know about. The blood pressure machine also did not have a way to store long term readings, which could be helpful for people

who need to track their blood pressure over the course of several months or years. My app aims to help users track their blood pressure, symptoms, and habits, which would give them personalized feedback on what affects their blood pressure. It was important that this app could help people off all ages and abilities, so I built in features and information that would help those who did not have a lot of information about the specifics of blood pressure monitoring so everyone is able to get the most accurate information possible to take charge of their health.

Olivia

Olivia Robinson is a 37 year old wife, marketing manager, and is on her way to becoming a mother of 2. During her last few visits with her obstetrician her blood pressure has been higher than average. This worries her doctor because high blood pressure can lead to many different complications that may lead to the early delivery of her son. Olivia has been advised to use a blood pressure monitor at home daily to monitor her symptoms so she and her doctor can decide on the best course of action. After Olivia gets home from work she doesn't have a lot of time to take her blood pressure, so she tries to do it as fast as possible, giving her a high reading which makes her concerned. In her state of alarm Olivia takes a look through the app to see what factors may be causing her blood pressure to be unexpectedly high. She discovers that because she rushed through her reading, this most likely caused her to have a higher blood pressure. After reading through some of the articles on the app about how to properly take her blood pressure, Olivia takes a five minute break, tries again, and is able to get a successful reading, making her feel more at ease and in control of her health monitoring.

John

John Matthews is a 60 year old retired mechanic. John has had issues with his blood pressure for years, so at the advice of his doctor, he is on medication and tracks his blood pressure daily. John has not used other apps because he prefers to keep things simple and write down his blood pressure results, but yesterday his daughter told him about an app that will do all the work for him. He was hesitant about the change, but downloaded the app and was pleased to see that the app  was simple and easy to use, which helps because he is not the most tech-savvy person. John usually likes to take his blood pressure at home in the morning, but because he likes to keep busy, often running errands and watching his grandkids, he will sometimes forget to take his blood pressure readings or medications. John was pleased to find there was an option to set up notifications on the app, as well as a place to store and easily see past blood pressure readings, allowing him to have easy access to his health information.

Mia

Mia Wilson is a 21 year old college student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in biology. Mia was recently diagnosed with POTS, a heart condition that can result in episodes of low blood pressure. After a long class Mia started to feel faint, so she headed back to her dorm to check her blood pressure. Mia is not familiar with taking her blood pressure on her own yet, so she felt relieved when she opened the app and saw instructions on the most effective way to take her blood pressure. Mia also makes sure to track her symptoms to see how they are related to her blood pressure episodes, which she feels will allow her to figure out earlier when she is having an episode so that she can take her medications or other treatments. Mia does not have a lot of knowledge about the other factors that can affect blood pressure, so she uses the app to learn more about how to manage her blood pressure.
